Andy Griffith Dies at 86

Andy Griffith has died.

The TV legend was 86.

He died at his home in North Carolina on Tuesday morning, his close friend Bill Friday confirmed.

No official cause of death was given.

Griffith was one of the most beloved television actors of the past half-century, first on 'The Andy Griffith Show' and later on the long-running series 'Matlock.'

In May, Griffith's good friend and co-star George Lindsey, who starred as Goober Pyle on the show, died.

• I grew up watching Andy. He will be missed sooo much. He was a wonderul man with a kind heart and a sweet spirit. Praying for his family and loved ones.

• Most of us watched him on TV growing up, and had a feeling we knew him personally. Over the years whenever I'm flipping channels and happen upon Mayberry I stop and instantly go back to that time in my life ' watching and learning a lesson, with laughter and love. Thank you Andy Griffith, you are a Nation Treasure.

• I also watched reruns of the Andy Griffith Show and watched Matlock. He will be missed by all. RIP Andy Griffith!

• I loved watching Matlock with my mom. This is a total bummer.

Brad Pitt's younger brother Doug is taking a self-mocking turn in the spotlight in a new Virgin Mobile commercial.

In the ad (below), Doug shows off his decidedly not A-list lifestyle, prompting the company to give him his first 'celebrity' endorsement as part of its 'Fair Go Bro' campaign.

Alec Baldwin discusses some pretty violent fantasies involving his enemies in the August Vanity Fair cover story.

The '30 Rock' star, who recently got into two intense altercations with overzealous paparazzi photographers in New York, tells the magazine in vivid detail about how he'd like to have dispatched others who have crossed paths with him.

Specifically, he mentions Harvey Levin, the TMZ boss who posted audio of Baldwin's heated voicemail to daughter Ireland back in 2007.

'I wanted to stick a knife in him and gut him and kill him, and I wanted him to die breathing his last breath looking into my eyes,' Baldwin says of Levin.

Yikes.

The actor also reflects on wanting to murder ex-wife Kim Basinger's lawyer 'with a baseball bat.'

As for Basinger herself, Baldwin describes their current relationship as 'cordial,' saying he and she speak 'from time to time' about their daughter.

Baldwin got married for a second time ' to yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas ' on Saturday.

The couple, who wed in March, have welcomed a son, Noah Rev Maurer, reports Us Weekly.

We're sure Noah will one day get a kick out of his dad's amusing engagement story.

Ted Claws to Top of Weekend Box Office

The foul-mouthed bear is box office king.

Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and director Seth MacFarlane as a pot-smoking, dirty-minded stuffed animal, won its debut weekend with a box office take of $52.4 million.

Another new release, Channing Tatum's male stripper extravaganza Magic Mike, came in second with an impressive $38 million.

Last week's winner, Pixar adventure Brave, secured third place with $35.5 million.

Madea's Witness Protection, the latest from director-star Tyler Perry, and Madagascar 3 nabbed the fourth and fifth spots with $27 million and $12.5 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter ($6.2 million), Prometheus ($5.1 million), Moonrise Kingdom ($5 million), Snow White and the Huntsman ($4.6 million), and People Like Us (4.2 million).
