After a big mid-holiday week opening, The Amazing Spider-Man swung to the top of a crowded box office.

The Andrew Garfield-Emma Stone superhero reboot earned $66 million for the weekend, giving it an easy win over three still-strong holdovers.

Foul-mouthed stuffed bear comedy Ted took second place with $35.5 million.

Pixar's latest animated adventure Brave nabbed third with $23.5 million in ticket sales.

The new Oliver Stone drug war epic Savages and male stripper saga Magic Mike came in fourth and fifth places with $16.7 million and $15 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Madea's Witness Protection ($10.6 million), Madagascar 3 ($8.1 million), Katy Perry: Part Of Me ($7.5 million), Moonrise Kingdom ($5 million), and To Rome With Love ($3.2 million).

  • None of these movies appeal to me at all so I won't be seeing anything. At least I get to stay home out of this awful heat we're having. I have put 'Brave' and 'Ted' on my Netflix queue so I'll eventually see them. I have zero interest in yet another 'Spiderman.'
